Torrey Pines State Beach (TPSB)
TPSB is popular with swimmers and surfers. In the late summer broad, sandy beaches and a relatively smooth bottom attract thousands of beach-goers. Plenty of lifeguards on duty separate swimmers and surfers, and give advice about rip currents.
Winter storm waves and currents strip the sand from the beach and create dangerous uneven bottom conditions with holes and drop-offs. The water is cold without a wetsuit. And often dangerous rip currents exist. The sun sets early. Lifeguards each have a much bigger stretch of beach to patrol.
